Letter 25 September the 13, 1864

“I dont tnink that there was eny won starved to deth yet and we wold not a bin out that time but we on a march”

Dear Mother I take this oppertunety to wright you a few lines to let you no that we are all well at present and to let you no that I receved your letter and was glad to hear from you add all so glad to hear that you are all well at present we are in Campt 15 miles from harpers farey in the direction of Winchester we have bin hear a bout two weeks we have had a gradeal of wrain in the last week or two well we have plentey to eat since we left petersburge the resen why we have more to eat since we have bin heare is that we get plentey of corn and appels there is lots of frut here but it dont last long where the armey goes a long and we kill all the hogs and sheep that is in the cuntery and they have bin very plentey nearley every farmer hear had from 25 to 100 head of hogs and sheep you was saying that Jonn Flinn sed that we wer nerley starved and som was all most necked and that when they marched a long they left markes of blood on the ground when John Flinn seen us we had just bin on a very hard marcn of a bout 150 miles no dout thate there was som learley bearfootted but if they wer if was there one falt for we can get a new sute of close every month and as being stearved the longest that we wer with out wrasnens since we wer out was two days that we wer witn out crackers tho we had plenty of meet and coffe so I dont tnink that there was eny won starved to deth yet and we wold not a bin out that time but we on a march and they cold not get up with the train well you was wanting to no what Math ocupacen was since he was purmoted he is ordley sargent now he has the wroll to call and nas to de tale tne men for gard and has the clots to drow and when the captom and lutenents ar not here he has charge of tne compney he gets twentey dolers a month and is not in eney more danger that a privet well I must close no more at present but re mane yours un till deth
