Letter 62 Undated, approximately November 1876

“The Bird is well. He don't sing anymore. I caught his mate again but she got out.”

With pleasure I seat myself to write you a few lines in response to your kind letter which I received and was glad to hear from you. We are all well at present. Hoping you are the same. Marys is all well except bad colds. The children are going to school. I have not been up there since you was up. I started to school and went four days and a half. We have been cleaning house last week and not done yet. I got a letter from Mat. They were all well but her. She had a sore finger. She stated that they got a letter from Aunt Jane and they were well now but had had ague. She said they had very poor crops. Ellen Ernst and Hugh Maxwell is married. They were married two weeks last Wed. I was at the wedding. There were 80 invited and all there but five. Ma has not made her dress yet. We have quilted a quilt. The Bird is well. He don't sing anymore. I caught his mate again but she got out. She comes on the porch every day and eats. I guess I will close for this time. Hoping to hear from you soon.
