Dear Mother I take this opertunety to wright you a few lines to let you no that we ar still a live and very glad that we can say that much for we have had a very hard fight we left the armey of the potomic the morning of the 6 and went to cittey point and there we took the boat and landed at boltimore the 8 and there we took the cares and went to manocey juncn a bout 60 miles from bolt imore on the baltimore and ohio railrode we got there the evening of the 8 and we lade there all night and the next morning we wer formed in line of batel we onely had the third Devishen of one corps there and som hunderd day men I and a few cavlery the fight comenct a bout 6 oclock and lasted till a bout three in the evening when the rebels charged on our lines with three hovey lines of batel and we onley had won line and we had to fall back we lost a grate meney wonded and som taken prisners and som kild there was non kild in our Compney Capton Brown was wonded and the boys cared him a bout three miles and the rebels came soclost on them that they had to leave him at a house Capton Hahnay was kild Charles Kubbin was wonded and was taken prisner that is all that was wonded that you no the rest of the boys from a bout hampton are all right we fell back with in ten miles of boltimore where we ar now a staying I dont no how long we will stay hear well I must closewright as son as you can and I will remane yours un till death George & Math Overpack give my love to all the frends direct your letters as before 2 Bregad 3 Devishen 6 corps washing D C
