Letter 34 — Dark Co Ohio, March the 16, 1865

My dear son I have taken my pen in hand to let you know that I received youre leter that was dated March the 2 I was very glad to heare from you and to heare that you are injoying good health wee are all well at this time and hoap this may find you still injoying good health, I wroat a leter last thursday to George I expect he will have it bye this time Emanuel will goe to Greenavill the last of this weak or the first of nex to get the money that you sent there if we get it it will com very good it will help to bye som catle Emanuel had to gou in so strong to ceap from being drafted that he is scard of money this spring and cant bet the stock that he wood lieke to have for the pasture that he will have this sumer Emanuels wheat loocks very well at this time and the grass is coming out very nicley the wether heare was tolerable could heare all this winter it comenced before Christmas and lasted till the 4th and 5th of this month and since that the wether has been quite moderate I was very much disapointed when I received Georges last leter I had heard that he was a coming home this month and I thought he wod have said somthing about it but he did not saye wether there was a eney prospect of him geting to come or not, I am very glad to heare that you have got on such peacable turms with the rebels I wish it was so every place and then I think the war wod soon bee over for as long as men ceap fighting and cilling each other there is not much prospect of pease for this cilling of men and distroying property is avery poor way to mack peace and turning so maney poor weemin and children out of homes and that to starve I supose that wee might say that we dont know much about it but we know a nuf to mack our harts acke, every thing that we have to bye is so very heye and then goods is not neare so good as they youst to bee such muslin as you bought for shirts before you left is
now seling for 75 cts per yard calico is from 37 to 50cts cotton jaines that we youst to get for 25cts is now 100 dol sugar is seling at 33 1/3 cts the last time that wee herd from Clark the Hampton peaple was all expecting the smallpocks wee are expecting a leter to morow eavning from some of the friends in Clark I got a leter from John Wise since I wroat to you last they ware all well and have got in there new house I expect it is afine won it is a brick and I was to ld that there was eleven roumes in it well I hoap this cruel war will soon bee over and you will get to come home I tell you that I dont want you to reainlist wat ever you doo, but the prospect dont loock very favorable heare for as long as men are so ready to goe for money as they have this winter if it wasant for the greanbacks this war wod have beean over long a goe no more at this time but remaine your afectingle Mother untill death
