Letter 39 City Point Va, April 23, 1865

“the war is over now I think for we have got nearley all the rebels prisners”

Dear Mother I receved your most kind and welcome letter and was glad to hear that you wer all well at present I am well at present and hope that when thes few lines come to hand they may still find you in joying the same blessing well mother the war is over now I think for we have got nearley all the rebels prisners I think that we will all get home be fore long for they have no use for as larg a armery now for there is no rebels hear now the armey is all laying in camp with out having aney pickets out well som think that wel will all be at home to help to harvest they have sent won corps a way from hear last weeke and they say that they want to Washington to be mustered out of the swers and the talk is that our Corps will leave hear in a few days and I think that if we are sent a way from hear that I will get home with in six weeks at the out side well I will send you and Nancey each a ring that I made out of losel root and I will send Felax won too tell him that he must keep it nice till I come home well I will close for this time wright son and I will remane yours un till death
