Letter 38 Citey Point VA, April the 3rd, 1865

“we surprised the joneys and wer on there works be fore they wer up”

Dear Mother It is wish moch plesher that I take my pen in hand to wright you a few lines to let you no that I am well at present and hope that when these few lines comes to hand that they will find you in joyen the Same blessing well we have had some fighting for the lase week we have got pertuers burg and Richmand and ar a folering the joneys up we have capert a bout thirtey or fortey thousand priseners becides the kild and wonded what is left of them has gon to linch burg and they say that the Caverley as fiftey miles from hear Generl Shuradan is a folern them up I heard that the 6 corps is in Camp at Petersburg we surprised the joneys and wer on there works be fore they wer up and when we got in ther works we yoused ther one artilery them and so they had to light out the Presedent was hear and the went to Richmand with our Men well I have not herd from the regiment since they have taken Peters Burg but they had a litel fight last friday a weak a go and there was fore kild and seventeen wonded in the regiment there won wose kild and too wonded in our Company Wm Wise wos wonded in the right arm it did not strike the boan he was sent to Washington he will be well in a bout three weeks well you sed that you heard that I was a coming home discharged I did think that I wold get my discharg it was made out and sent up to Bregade hed querters and then it was sent back and I had to take the papers and to the Bregade surgent and be examined and when I went to him he wanted to put me in the invled Corps and I woldent go there and then I was sent to the hoppiel to do light dutey the resend that I did not right eny thing a bout my discharg I was not shure a giting it and I did not want to dsapoint you well I must close wright son derect yore leter George Overpack 6 corps Hospital City Point Va
