Letter 34 — October 1st, 1872
“I got to the depot in good time. I got to Springfield at a quarter past nine.”
I seat myself to let you know that I got home safe and sound. I got to the depot in good time. I got to Springfield at a quarter past nine. The train did not go any further than Springfield so I happened to see John Pence over in town and got to ride out with him. He had stayed in town to see the Greely Torchlight Procession. I was over at Uncle Tom's a Sunday. They are all well. Adam got left in Dayton when they was coming home. The rest of the crowd got home at twelve o'clock and he did not get home til nine at night on the freight train. Mrs Greiner died yesterday. She is to be buried tomorrow at Ferncliff Cemetery. She had the typhoid fever. Well I must bring my letter to a close. Hoping to hear from you soon. So Good bye. Write soon.
