Letter 35 — October 30, 1872
“Grandpa says he is going to quit farming in the Spring, he says it will cost too much to hire hands.”
I seat myself to let you know that I am well at present hoping when these few lines reach you they may find you the same. There has been a great deal of sickness here this fall. Jacob Nicklin is dead, he died the eighth of October of typhoid fever. Our Sabbath School broke up last Sunday for this fall. I have a cousin living in Lagonda, I do not know what her name is, it is one of Uncle Alex's daughters. Henry and I are going to go see them but have not got started yet, her husband works in the machine shop. We are husking corn now and my hands are getting as sore as ever. Grandpa says he is going to quit farming in the Spring, he says it will cost too much to hire hands. Well I must bring my letter to a close for this time, so good bye. Write soon
