Letter 53 — March 19, 1876
“she has a boy in eight months after she was married, so she has few friends left”
I seat myself to let you know that we are well at present. I guess you thought we forgot to write again. We have been out of paper and always forget to get any. We are having winter now again. You ought to come up and see our girl, she can begin to walk a little. Cal has broke up house keeping, she is at Grandpa's, her and May Maud is at Jerry's and Ruby at Adam's. She left the baby, it is in New Moorefield yet at Mercer's, Chester went to Springfield yesterday to keep grocery, they say he had a omnibus come out after him, he has sued Grandpap for five thousand dollars for keeping her. Elva's ring is a little too large but is very nice, she will soon grow into it. Grandpap has been very sick for about a month, he is some better now but is still bedfast. We have had bad luck with our pigs, we had two sows and each had twelve pigs, now one has six and the other one left, them that you saw are all living and doing well. I must bring my letter to a close, we would like for you to come up and stay awhile whenever you can. So good bye. Ellie sends her love. Write soon and we will try and do better next time.
