Day 5 July 21, 1966

Tucumcari to Williams, Arizona
“We saw 6 rainbows — 3 at the same time.”

As we were about 90 miles east of Albuquerque we saw 6 rainbows — 3 at the same time. We were not in rain at the time.

At Albuquerque the station attendant (Standard) said that we needed new shocks on back — they seemed to be leaking oil. We got them but Nancy says that Standard looks for things to put on your car.

Impressed with the vastness of the surroundings — mesas, mutes and the humbleness of the Indians' adobes.

The shocks cost $22.67 on top of the gas — 12.2 gallons at $4.50, then 16.7 gallons at $6.50, and 9.5 gallons at $4.20. Lunch was $6.20 and supper $1.73. Stopped at the Petrified Forest — $1.00 admission. Motel in Williams — $14.48.
