Day 6 — July 22, 1966
“Had a wonderful time with Gardners.”
Had a wonderful time with Gardners. They took us all around the valley to see sights. We saw Phoenix at night. Saw a Food Bazaar (Market Place). They had a lovely motel for us and took us to a fine place to eat. We met his sister. It was terribly hot but almost everything was air conditioned.
Before we got to Phoenix we had to buy a new fuel pump. We also saw a terrible accident — only the auto left — no people.
Visited the Grand Canyon — $1.00 admission — and Montezuma Castle — $1.13. The fuel pump cost $15.37. Filled up — 13.5 gallons at $5.90 plus a quart of oil for $.75. Lunch was $1.87. Postcards $.25, film and brush $.63, and left a $1.00 tip.
